The 7 habits to have in your home

Les 7 habitudes à avoir dans son intérieur-SOUFFLE D’INTÉRIEUR

Christophe ETIENNE |

Your home should be a place of happiness. A space that comforts you where you can be yourself. And sometimes, all it takes is a few small changes to make your home the place where you simply feel good.

A happy environment replaces stress and anxiety with peace and relaxation. You begin to have a more positive outlook on life.

And the best part? Creating a home that exudes joie de vivre is easy. Get inspired with these 7 habits that will make your home a happy, comfortable place all year long.

1. Keep your interior clean

Let’s be real about this, this doesn’t mean everything has to be 100% clean all the time. Because we’re not robots, we have lives to live. But it can mean spending 10 minutes tidying up every day.

Tidying up the sofa cushions, putting away dry dishes on the sink or dusting your living room furniture, these little habits are easy to adopt.

And since it's nearly impossible to keep your entire house spotless, try this: Challenge yourself to keep one part of the house clean as often as possible.

2. Banish clutter

Clutter is synonymous with anxiety and loss of productivity. If you don't try to work around it, you'll find yourself surrounded by clutter and wondering how you ever accumulated so much stuff.

Something that is no longer essential? It's clutter.

Some of these are easier to identify, like 5-year-old lipstick or expired medications.

But other things are harder to let go of, whether you're holding on to them for sentimental reasons or convinced you'll need them again (even if you haven't touched them in years).

Throw away trash and recycle whatever you can. Anything else can be donated or sold at a yard sale.

3. Organize (at least a little)

No matter when, it's always a good time to organize your home. And don't feel like you have to organize everything at once.

A good practice is to take baby steps, because not only does organizing take much longer than originally anticipated, but focusing on one area at a time will keep stress to a minimum.

4. Add amazing smells to your home

There are several habits you can adopt to make your home smell amazing.

First, it starts with a clean house. But beyond the basic routine of vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the bathroom, etc., give some love to what you neglect most often.

Dusty fans, unwashed curtains, month-old refrigerator food and filthy trash cans are some of the culprits responsible for bad smell in the house.

Open the windows to let fresh air circulate. It's a 100% natural and free habit.

You can also use room fragrance. From candles and room sprays to essential oil diffusers and potpourri in the kitchen, here's where you can really get into the fun.

5. Bring in natural light

Natural light instantly makes a space feel more open and cheerful.

And guess what? Natural light has additional benefits. It’s known to prevent depression, improve sleep, and increase productivity.

Get into the habit of opening curtains and raising blinds. Hang mirrors in places that capture and release sunlight to increase the brightness of your space.

6. Rearrange the furniture

Rearranging furniture is not a habit you can practice every day, but every now and then it helps you break out of the routine.

When you've lived in one place for a while, even that space can start to feel a little mundane after a while.

This is exactly why rearranging a few pieces of furniture (or even an entire room) can give a room a new lease of life.

It's almost like buying new furniture, without the price tag. Your home gets a makeover and you enjoy a boost in mood and creativity.

And not only can it make you happier and improve the flow of a room, it's also the perfect opportunity to declutter, organize, and clean out those dust bunnies and cat toys hidden under furniture.
